Back in the Saddle, though not my own

I brought my beloved Mac to the repair guy on Friday only to find that he is no longer in business, at least not in that location.  It was a real pain too because I work at the top of a very long hill and I had lugged the thing up the hill to work then down to the repair place, then back up the damn hill to bring it to another place!  Of course, I took the bus to do all the lugging.  I brought it to our friendly neighborhood Mac sales and service place, Small Dog and they loaned me a loaner while they repair mine.  It’s a newer model, but I miss my own computer.  They really do become personal before too long.

In the studio the Monster is coming a long.  It’s good fun to make.

Monster Feet

These are monster feet waiting for another layer or two of paper mache.  I said before that I was using the techniques laid out by Dan Reeder, but not all of his techniques.  He puts a final layer of cloth over his creations, but I will continue with paper.

Monster HandsThe arms and hands need a little fleshing out before I put more layers of paper on them.  And I also did the tongue.

Monster TongueIts not much to look at, but knowing what it is makes it kinda freaky to me.

And lastly the Woblins are gessoed and ready to be painted.  That’s always the fun part, but I will need to scare up some inspiration for that.

Woblin GoblinsActually, I take part of that back.  The bottoms need to be gessoed, then they’ll be ready to paint.  See how I just bought myself a little time there!  Whew!

Off the Press (Not on in the first place)

So my Mac crapped out on me the other night just as I was thinking that I should back it up. It’d been a week-ish since the last back up. Less than 10 days, definitely, but I had a bunch of photos that I had taken and edited since the last back up. Too late now! Not only did it crap out on me, as it has in the past, but the usual fixes aren’t fixing it. What’d I do before I owned that thing!

So, no nice new photos off my nice new Nikon D5000, which I love. But I have had my hands in the flour and water and glue goo. I have been working on some little goblins–woblin goblins–I think I’ll call them because the bottoms are not flat.

Also a Monster using the techniques laid out in Dan Reeder’s book. http://www.gourmetpapermache.com/

I use his no-newspaper-in-the-paste technique on everything and I love it. It’s very quick and makes a strong piece. I recommend the book for anyone who does paper mache or just wants an entertaining book with lots of pictures of dragons.

That’s all I got today! I’ll just leave you with this little tidbit. I am sure it is in real time too!

Crazy Cat Lady–or not

On Saturday I acquired a new cat bringing the count up to three full-grown cats.  I was excited because this makes me an official Crazy Cat Lady!  I showed pictures of the new kid and proudly wore my new badge.

The new catBut then one of my friends said, no, you have to be single to be a crazy cat lady.  And so far, everyone has agreed.  What!  After managing to avoid it for just shy of forty-four years, I finally got married in October.  So now what?  I guess I’ll keep the Oaf, but if I’d'a known I was going to come into a third kitty…..well!

The other two catsThen this afternoon at work one of my co-workers not only confirmed that, indeed, you must be single to be a CCL, but that three cats is the upper limit of not being one and it is actually four cats that will put you over the edge.   But once that golden band is slipped on thy finger, the only thing you are is an Ole Married Lady.

Grey cat on a lapI guess I can handle it.

Humoresque Arts on Etsy: Now Open!

With three whole things for sale in there! And no logo or banner. Yet. Still, check out the three paper mache (or is that papier mache?) masks. First is the full face Glamor Witch Orange, then the half mask Glamor Witch Purple, and thirdly The Hunter. Sounds ominous, The Hunter, and he kinda is, but I am pretty proud of it. I am proud of them all, in fact.

Here is the link.  Go visit!
